Oil-submersible cable is used to connect electrical equipment used in oil production and pumping (electric motors, submersible oil pumps, oil drills), operates at rated AC voltage of 3.3 and 4.5 kV with frequency up to 70 Hz. Cables for oil submersible pumps are operated in wells in the environment of water, gas and oil in conditions of pressure and tensile loads. Therefore, special requirements are imposed on the design of oil-submersible cables.
Construction
Basically, oil-submersible cables consist of 3 multiwire copper conductors with cross-section of 6-50mm2, laid in parallel. Core insulation is made of rubber, polyethylene, elastomers or other heat-resistant polymers. Lead sheath, armor, rubberized cushion can be applied over the insulation depending on the operating conditions. The outer sheath is usually polyethylene. Operating temperature can reach up to + 90...+ 120 C, in these cases, the cable is equipped with armor, which protects the insulation from softening. As a rule, to save money, cables with reinforced metal sheaths are used only at the end sections, where the operating conditions are the most severe.
